COOPER CITY HIGH SCHOOL’S
GUIDANCE PROGRAM
Cooper City High School provides a guidance program to every student. Every child has access to the guidance services and to school counselors and will be treated equitably. Program components include assistance with academic and career information for future planning, test score interpretation, registration, scholarship and financial aid, personal social development, test anxiety and many other topics that address the concerns and needs of the Cooper City school community as students transition from high school to the real world. For a copy of Cooper City High School’s guidance program, click here.
Counselors regularly visit classrooms and work with students individually to assist them in achieving their potential. We encourage parents to get involved with their student’s education and speak with a guidance professional for assistance. This includes the four counselors, an ESE specialist, the BRACE advisor, and the guidance director.
Parents and students may keep up-to-date and informed of “happenings” in guidance through the School News section of this website.
How to Access a School Counselor For You and/or Your Child:
Cooper City High School is committed to providing excellent customer service. Toward that effort, the Guidance Department initiated the Counselor-of-the-Day last year. Students found the service to be quick and helpful. All students in all grade levels may see the COUNSELOR-OF-THE-DAY any day or time when class is not in session by stopping into the Guidance Center. Ask a question or get a simple answer. If the issue is a confidential one, the student will be referred to his/her assigned counselor to ensure privacy. The Counselor-of-the Day assists students with general questions and/or immediate concerns, i.e.: What is the deadline for my college application? How do I order a transcript? May I check my 2nd semester schedule? I need a college recommendation. What's the process? Do you have a sample resume'?
Our counselors keep regular hours; however, they are often in a classroom, in a group, with students and parents, where they are not always able to assist immediately. Should parents wish to contact a counselor, please call 754-323-0215 to speak with the COUNSELOR-OF-THE-DAY or to make an appointment with the assigned counselor. In nearly all circumstances, assigned counselors will attempt to return phone calls before the end of the day each school day. All counselors may be reached at 754-323-0215, or use the email links in the staff list below:
Mrs. Beer: ESE Specialist
Mrs. Siwek: BRACE Advisor
REGISTRATION:
All registration information will be verified when new students register at Cooper City High School. School Board policy mandates that students who attempt to enroll in CCHS, and our school is not their boundaried school, will be immediately withdrawn and enrolled in their home school. Be aware that those parents who register at Cooper City High School fraudulently could be prosecuted. Falsifying address information is a misdemeanor. Click here to access registration information and forms.
SCHEDULE CHANGES:
Students register each spring for the following school year. It is hoped that students have talked with their parents/guardian and made informed course decisions based on recommendations, interests, and goals for the future. Signed course selection sheets are available in the Guidance Office for any parent or student who wishes to verify the courses they selected in the spring. It is not recommended that schedules be changed; however, there are certain circumstances where it is in the best interest of the student to consider a schedule change:
The COUNSELOR-OF-THE-DAY or the assigned counselor will consider the request for any of the above reasons. Please talk with your child to ensure that he or she is not requesting a schedule change for ANY OTHER REASON.
The following guidelines apply to all requests:
To request a schedule change, students must submit a Schedule Change Request Form (see link at bottom of this page). CHANGE REQUESTS CAN NOT BE CONSIDERED AFTER THE DUE DATE ON THE FORM.
CCHS’ BRoward Advisor for Continuing Education is Mrs. Siwek. BRACE provides assistance with post-secondary planning, including college/university searches and application processes, financial aid and scholarship information, and career planning. Students may access BRACE through the COUNSELOR-OF-THE-DAY or by stopping into the Guidance Center at any time to utilize the computer stations and resources available to make informed decisions and seek out opportunities. Mrs. Siwek is always available before and after school, as well as during lunch hours. Click here for the BRACE Scholarship Bulletin.
